Bilateral Relations

Jewish settlement in Kenya began in the early 1900s. Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kenya and the State of Israel were established in 1963. In 1973, the relations ruptured in the aftermath of the Arab/Israel War (Yom Kippur War), after Kenya complied with an OAU resolution calling on African countries to sever relations with Israel.

Diplomatic relations were re-established in 1988 and the Embassy opened in 1994. The relations are productive and friendly in various fields and are underpinned by strong people to people ties, offering a strong basis for future growth.

Both sides are looking to develop closer co-operation in political, trade and economic relations, science and technology, culture and academic exchanges.
